This Friday I have the pleasure of speaking at the PACT Excellence Share. We will spend time exploring the topic, “How to choose the right elearning tool for your project“.

Do you:

– Get overwhelmed at the thought of choosing an elearning tool?

– Tend to wander from tool to tool depending on what looks “cool”?

– Struggle to identify what your needs are when looking for a tool?

– Find yourself spending your entire elearning budget on the new, fancy tool only to discover that it doesn’t “do” what you need it to when creating a course?

-Feel overwhelmed at the thought of needing to learn all of the tools out there to produce a course?

Well, if you can relate to any of these questions than this session is for you. Technology and therefore learning tools that enable us to use the technology change almost daily. How do you know which ones to adopt and when to purchase the newest “tool of choice”?

The answer is to create a plan to identify your exact learning tools needs within your organization. When you identify your needs and requirements first, finding the tool that fits those requirements takes a lot of the guesswork out of it.

Here is a strategy to help you get started:

  1. Audit your overall learning strategy. (Do you have one? How is the learning delivered, structured, etc.)
  2. Identify elearning course development needs in organization  (use checklist to help- see below)
  3. Research the different tools that are out in the market
  4. Rank different tools against the needs/requirements
  5. Try each tool on your short list to test it
  6. Final Selection

Print this checklist of factors to consider when choosing a tool.
